Self-aligning ball bearings feature two rows of spherical rolling elements, with an outer ring equipped with a single common spherical raceway and an inner ring fitted with two deep groove continuous uninterrupted raceways. They can be either open or sealed. This type of bearing allows for significant angular displacement of the shaft relative to the housing, for example, angular displacement caused by shaft deflection.

With two structre if bore cylindrical or tapered and retainers made of steel sheet or synthetic resins, the bearings are charateristic of their spherically formed outer ring raceways allowing for misaligment within 3 deflection between inner ring and outer ring, so as to compensate concentricity and deflenction erros.
